Laptop Posters

During OSM 2014, there will be ample opportunity for PhD candidates to present laptop posters. In these sessions, the junior scientists will showcase their work using their own laptop, in quick-fire rounds of short presentations of five minutes. The format will be short elevator pitches to a group small enough to gather around the candidate’s laptop. After the presentation, the audience will rotate and a new round of short presentations will commence.

Junior scientists wanting to take part in the laptop poster sessions should submit their laptop poster digitally to the OSM organisers. Submissions can be made in three broad categories:  Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences and Humanities. Laptop posters can be submitted by dropbox to from 15 September until 15 December 2013. Please send in the visuals and the accompanying text. On 7 January 2014 will be the notification of both acceptance of the laptop posters as well as the announcement of the 9 poster presenters selected for the Junior Scientist Symposium.

A jury consisting of senior academics from Indonesia and The Netherlands will decide whether the presentation will be entered in the programme.

Oral presentation during Junior Scientist Symposium

In each of the three broad categories, the jury will select the best three laptop presentations for participation in the Junior Scientist Symposium on 28 January. In this symposium the successful candidates can present their work in a 15 minute oral presentation.

Junior scientists eligible to submit a laptop presentation are: 1)Those who are in the final stages of application for a PhD position and have submitted research proposals, 2)PhD candidates working on their PhD projects, 3)Those who have received their PhD no longer than two years prior to the OSM date.

The 9 individuals which are selected as representing the best laptop posters in the three fields will be invited to present their work in 15 min presentations in the Junior Scientist Symposium. The organization will reimburse travel cost and three nights at the OSM venue hotel for these 9 junior scientists
