The pathogenesis of epithelial ovarian carcinoma currently remains controversial and particularly argued in the pathologic and gynocologic fields. In the lastfive years there have been several discoveries supporting the fact that ovarian carcinoma precursor lesion is located outside ovarian tissue. Endometrium is one of the organs ussumed to have abnormality associating with serous ovarian carcinoma, which in this case in Endometrial Intraepithelial Carcinoma (EIC). This analytical survey study using cross sectional study is intended to analyze the association between EIC and Serous Ovarian Carcinoma (SOC).
A statistical significant similarity of P53 (p=0.024), ER(p=0.000), E-Cadherin(p=0.019) proteins expression between EIC and SOC was found. The type, location, and nucleotide base change of p53 gene mutation on EIC were found identical with p53 gene mutation on SOC in the same patients. The p53 mutation characteristics were also found in 80.5% of all p53 mutation of SOC cancer examined. This study promotes the fact that EIC can become a SOC precursor lesion.
